Optix

These encaustic monotypes involve perception and optical play. Most of the works are patterned, sensual, and tactile. They can give the impression of movement or flashing and vibrating patterns, such as in a moire pattern. Optical illusions occur because our brain tries to interpret what we see and make sense of the world around us. In Optix, I attempt to capture immaterial atmospheric phenomena and create a level of involvement in our environment that helps us be aware of nature, science, and art and how they can work together when fueled by human curiosity.
