My work emerges from two extremes in natural environments where I have lived: the Gulf Coast with its verdant land and furious hurricanes, and New Mexico, which is spare, dry, and meditative. Through. painting, experimental encaustic printing, and installation, I examine nature's abstract chaos and beauty. I aim to illuminate urgent ecological questions and my personal journey across terrain that is a metaphor for life's events. I intentionally use materials that are mercurial and a bit out of my control, including heat, wax, and pigment, because they lead me to unplanned ideas and fresh imagery.
