Translucency and Light–what we love about encaustic!
This is an encaustic monotype workshop that focuses on the translucency of paper, ways of preserving light in the print, and presentation ideas.
We will create translucent papers on the Roland HOTbox and by saturating paper in clear or tinted wax. We will layer translucent drawings and prints and experiment with partially translucent encaustic prints that can be backlit. Paula guides students in developing intentions and a unique voice with the medium. She offers approaches that help integrate this work with your studio practice.
Class begins by reviewing printmaking to refresh and refine techniques. Paula provides inspiring exercises that take you out of your comfort zone and provide insights into the work at hand. We will look at artists whose work fits our objectives and find solutions to your presentation needs.
FORMAT: Demonstrations are interspersed with ample studio work time. Includes guided discussions, individual consultations with Paula, and group critiques. Class limited to 8. 10AM- 4PM daily.
